April 5, 2013 ♦ Friday @ 8 p.m. ♦ Concert Hall

“There are some voices that carry much more than a melody...and make magic out of thin air. Julie Fowlis has just such a voice.” — Evening-Standard, London

Named by the Scottish Parliament as its first-ever Gaelic Ambassador, Julie Fowlis will present an evening of vibrant and moving Celtic music. A folk singer and multi-instrumentalist, Fowlis has won numerous awards for her peerless voice and fine musicianship, including the BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year Award in 2008 and the Gaelic Singer of the Year Award in 2007. It is little wonder that when PIXAR was searching for the perfect voice to feature in its new animated film, Brave, it selected Julie Fowlis. She has released six critically acclaimed recordings and collaborated with artists such as James Taylor and Martha Wainwright, among others. Touring with a first-class ensemble, Fowlis has developed a formidable line-up synonymous with expressive and high-energy live shows; she is one of Scotland’s true contemporary treasures.
